This past Tuesday, May 29th 2012, a wonderful series of events led FYM to the Neptune Theater for an unforgettable, world-class experience. Sitting front-row, we soaked in the brilliant collaboration between two musical powerhouses, Hilary Hahn & Hauschka!
Hahn, a 32 year-old 2x Grammy-winning American violinist, recently partnered with Hauschka (Volker Bertelmann, a German prepared-piano genius), releasing the haunting sonic abstract titled SILFRA.
Our first introduction to the duo occurred earlier Tuesday afternoon, as they performed a spontaneous 15-minute set live at the Nordstrom Flagship store in downtown Seattle (which was announced only one hour prior via Flagship and Hahn’s social media channels).
It was quite the sight, witnessing two brilliant musicians play during the thick of Nordstrom’s Half-Yearly Sale. Just as interesting was viewing the Seattle shoppers reactions to the unexpected treat. Some people continued browsing the sale, others stayed glued to their mobile phones, but eventually a nice crowd pressed pause on their day, and gathered around the Flagship piano to witness such a striking performance.
That evening, we found ourselves right up front, watching the spine-tingling unspoken connection between the two live at the Neptune. Their stunning improvisations, deconstructed classical norms, leading the audience through a vivid emotional journey. Hilary Hahn & Hauschka are doing something very special with this collaboration, their new record SILFRA can be heard HERE. A very special THANK YOU to both for putting us on the list, it was very nice meeting you, and to Nordstrom for the afternoon surprise performance! Cheers, FYM.
