FYM DESIGN: HARRY CALDWELL, CORE GALLERY- 07.06.2011 SEATTLE WASHINGTON, USA

(FYM EDITORS NOTE: It would be hard for this Art Director to say he truly has reached  Boss Hog on Candy world-status, if he didn’t own a pair of- one of a kind, 14k gold, diamond encrusted, reversible hand-engraved plugs, fitting perfectly in each ear. The man we speak of below was a part of making this happen, and we are endlessly grateful for his peerless champion of being a true artist of his craft!)

Each first Thursday of every month in Seattle, one can find an evening of tireless art, music, and culture. On this special day, participating galleries, shops, and venues throughout the Seattle area (mainly focused in the Pioneer Square neighborhood) open their doors for an all access open house to introduce their new exhibitions from local, regional, and national artists.

(Harry Caldwell IV- “Green Man” 25mm $500 .925 Sterling Silver)

This Thursday, 07.06.2011, Core Gallery is opening the first solo show of formidable metal artist and engraver Harry Caldwell IV. The show, entitled “Engraved” showcases gorgeous selection of design and pattern cut into silver, gold, and steel.

Hand engraving creates a depth and definition in metal that can never be matched with machine engraving. This incredibly strategic and precise art is slowly becoming extinct. The invention of computer-aided engraving systems has made this a dying art. These systems can never replace the beauty and artistic personalized touch that comes through with hand engraving. Harry Caldwell IV is part of an elite group of artists fighting to keep this art alive.

An example of Harry’s work can be seen in these 14k gold plugs (pictured above). Designed by FYM security guard, Emily Codling, she commissioned Harry to add the hand engraved finishing touches, as a gift for her husband, Art Director, J. Thomas Codling.

This first Thursday opening happens tomorrow, from 6-8PM @ Core Gallery, 117 Prefontaine Place South, Seattle USA. The show runs through the end of the month, with an artist reception Saturday, July 16th. Click HERE to view more of Harry’s amazing work!

Cheers, FYM.

FYM PREVIEW: BLACK MOUNTAIN- KEXP FREE SHOW IN SEATTLE, AUGUST 2011

Just over a month away (Friday August 19th, 2011) Vancouver B.C. buds- Black Mountain, perform live at the Mural Amphitheater at Seattle Center for FREE! The show is part of the KEXP Summer concert series. We know it’s early to be talking about this, but it’s not everyday forYoungModerns finds out one of our favorite bands is going to be kickin’ it in our Seattle neighborhood (Queen Anne).

If you have yet to do so, check out their free-spirited, skater friendly, road rambling single, The Hair Song. FYM had the pleasure of witnessing Black Mountain and The Black Angels play together last fall at the Showbox. Stephen McBean and Amber Webber’s formidable stage dynamic live is one best seen in person (pictured below).

And obviously KEXP’s support of good Seattle music never fails, as they have put two impressive local bands in the line-up opening for Black Mountain on that evening (My Goodness and Whalebones). FYM hopes to catch both My Goodness and Stephen McBean’s other music project Pink Mountaintops next weekend when they perform at The Capitol Hill Block Party (one of our favorite events we look forward to each year).

So mark you’re calendars August 19th 2011, Black Mountain, My Goodness, and Whalebones live at Mural Ampitheatre (mural pictured above). You can count on the FYM posse being there- hanging in the grass, with our bare feet stomping on the ground. Cheers, FYM.

FYM PREVIEW: ERASURE LIVE IN SEATTLE USA

The 80’s English snythpop icons ERASURE are back in 2011 with a new album (Tomorrow’s World) and a full-scale 27 date North American Tour. A week from today, 10.06.11 -Will be your last chance in 2011 to catch Andy Bell & Vince Clark in the States, as they close out their summer tour at The Moore Theatre in Seattle Washington, USA.

Singles like Always, Chains of Love, A Little Respect and continued chart-topping success in the UK during the 90’s -have aided in ERASURE selling over 25 million records to date.

Above, When I Start To (Break It All Down) the first single off their new record -exhibits just how solid of a vocal showman Andy Bell still is. FYM continues to maintain a nostalgic listening love affair with ERASURE  -their spirited 80’s anthems still shimmer with contemporary bliss. It’s progressive easy listening kinetic pop music, and we can’t wait to see them at the historic Moore Theatre next Thursday in Seattle USA.

Electropop British counterpart -Frankmusik will be opening the night (he also produced ERASURE’s latest release Tomorrow’s World). It should be an incredible night of over the top dancefloor friendly sonic vigor assuredly impossible to miss. Buy tickets HERE. Cheers, FYM.
