FYM REVIEW: HEY CHAMP! STAR *

Hey Champ deliver a neon-dripping, sexy amalgam of 1980’s artifice on Star (available on Townie Records, Seattle WA). FYM’s standout track, “Shake” features a mountain of rapid-fire keyboard pageantry. Star begs to be played while sailing Lake Michigan, dancing in a room full of money, mirrors, and rumors.

These dudes from Rockford (that’s in Illinois) have also created one of the most bizarrely-magnificent music videos for their single Neverest.

Just like the video for Neverest, Star catches you off-gaurd like an 80’s dark comedy (we prefer Heathers). Their brand of electro power-pop can comfortably sit next to bands like the Greenskeepers (the infamous Chicago DJ Duo) and Junior Boys. If you have ever seen the movie Funny Games (american version) you will know where these guys are coming from.

Check out their site for free downloads, including FYM’s jam “Shake”

Band: Hey Champ *

Album: Star

Cred: Dolphin Boobs

Sounds Like: Broken spirits dancing to neon shadows of affection.

FYM PREVIEW: THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM, FAKE PROBLEMS, SEATTLE!

The Gaslight Anthem’s Jersey approved brand of honest working class punk rock n’ roll, will be on display September 13th, 2010 at the Shoxbox SODO in Seattle Washington, USA.

They have a dedicated group of fans in every city they play, so buy tickets asap, as it’s sure to sellout!

FYM favorite, The 59’ Sound is the perfect sonic illustration of how these guys can paint pictures through introspective chorus, carrying with them a “Stay Golden Pony Boy” attitude.

Also, be sure not to miss Gaslight Anthem label-mates Fake Problems, as they are currently on tour together.

Featuring dirt in your wound lead vocals, and memorable sing-along melodies, The Dream Team exemplifies what a solid tag-team of punk rock n’ roll The Gaslight Anthem and Fake Problems will be 9.13.10 at the Showbox SODO in Seattle!

FYM ON THE LIST: PARTY DOWN W/ LOCAL NATIVES, THE LOVE LANGUAGE, THE UNION LINE

FYM’s Art Director celebrated his 27th (YEAR OF THE ROCKSTAR) birthday Friday evening in Seattle.

The Union Line started by stunning us with Pearls featuring: melodic drama, bellowing Fred Flintstone rhythms, mixed with angelic harmonies, and church choir ambiance from sad endings to 1970’s after-school specials.

The Union Line live convey a perfect balance of spontaneity mixed with serious musicianship. They are the type of band who could easily haunt any David Lynch movie soundtrack. It’s unbelievable bands such as The Union Line still exist in a free floating limbo, roaming the United States unsigned to any sort of record label. They set the standard for the evening that was hard to top.

Keeping the Showbox crowd enamored, The Love Language produced a hypnotic wall of sound. Mixing classic lush (cocktails at sunset) rhythms, with hopeful vocal hubbub.

Duel gender vocals made songs like Summer Dust float perfectly into the sea of fans coasting along to The Love Language Friday evening.

Stuart McLamb works best with a solid group backing him, and this team worked spot on crafting live jams off of their summer release Libraries

McLamb and crew left stage to a frenzy of fans wanting more tunes. It was indeed a passionate response to all the hard work they left on stage. Check out Libraries NOW.

The Local Natives closed FYM’s monumental birthday evening! We were stoked when Local Natives played their formidable cover of Talking Heads Warning Signs seen below.

The audience connected with the band in a special way last evening. The crowd formed constant waves grooving throughout the floor. All three bands showed what great things can happen when you play with a top-notch rhythm section. Local Natives seemingly always understand the dynamic of telling a story through their tunes, holding back fiery sonic triggers of love, and melody… finding strength to pull the trigger releasing this energy at just the right moment.

Local Natives affirmed that creating elegant hooks filled with harmonies, and school yard chants combined- make for an excellent mix of sound.

Put on their latest release Gorilla Manor HERE!

(FYM thanks The Love Language for giving us some birthday adventures we soon will not forget!)

FYM PREVIEW: THE BLACK ANGELS LIVE IN SEATTLE WASHINGTON USA

The Black Angels take us further down the rabbit hole dizzying and raw, creating darkhorse psychedelic rumblings from Austin, Texas.

Their sound is dark and heady, full of stabbing (made a wrong turn down a backroad in the middle of nowhere) organic atmosphere. Yes it can be groovy at times:

The Black Angels new album PHOSPHENE DREAM has ruled our house speakers (weekly) since its release in September. The Black Angels are coming to Seattle’s Showbox (Market) on November 29th,  2010. Tickets can be bought HERE. So catch a charge, and come find our crew rolling to The Black Angels (on tour with psych-legends BLACK MOUNTAIN) at the perfect sized venue the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

Cheers,

FYM PREVIEW: 30 SECONDS TO MARS 2011 TOUR WITH M.C. RUT, LIVE IN SEATTLE

FYM (guilty) pleasure, 30 Seconds to Marsperform live at the luxurious Paramount Theatre next Tuesday, January 18th 2011.

Check out 30 Seconds to Mars, showcasing their true talent of blending cinema and soundtrack. Over the past few years, Jared Leto and crew have released a tremendously entertaining lineage of Music Videos. These videos feel more like mini-feature films than your typical band (going through the motions) on a campy production. On Kings & Queens, 30 Seconds to Mars continue this theme with a Darko meets The Warriors (come out and plaaay)- Critical Mass, fixed-gear biker gang celebration. The tune works perfectly with the stylish blanc-stallion art direction, a ‘we’re in this together’ vibe, and ‘look Ma’, no hands’ Leto riding his stark white fixie through the streets at a champions pace:

Sacto CA two-piece, Middle Class Rut, open the night with their unique brand of compelling, rough around the edges, hook-filled atmosphere. Check out Middle Class Rut and their holy rollin’ heavy foot stomper All Walks of Life:

Go to M.C. Rut’s well designed m_space for more information on their latest release No Name No Color. We hear these dudes put on a righteously kinetic live performance, so come hang out with us on Tuesday and let the entertainment commence!

Cheers,
